Oil Painting Signed H. Mujica
I got this beautiful oil painting off of facebook marketplace from this woman who lives in Millis, MA. She had originally posted, never responded, and then deleted it but then she came back a few months later! I was actually doing my scuba certification dives the day she wanted me to come pick it up so I had my partner stop by. No big deal; we do this all the time. The listing however omitted a crucial piece of information: this painting was HUGE like 68″. My partner ended up very carefully tying it to the top of our SUV and driving on the back roads all the way home…Anyways, the moment I saw this painting listed, I immediately fell in love. The colors, the scenery, the style. It’s an impressionist with heavy pastels and it’s stylized with thick, textured brushwork and soft abstraction. After doing a bit of searching, I believe the painting is by a Venezuelan painter, Henry Mujica, known for large scale impressionist and figurative works. From what I can tell, his paintings often have social or romantic scenes, women in elegant dresses, soft, layered pastel tones, expressive brushwork and texture. Probably one of my favorite paintings of all time.
Delphite Carnival Glass Water Set
I got this at an antique store in Denver, Colorado and it was not easy packing this for the flight back to Boston in my backpack. The original classic Carnival Dahlia pattern was made by Dugan in the early 1900s. The moulds were sold first in the 1930s to Wright and then later auctioned in the 1990s to Mosser. It’s hard to say if this one is a reproduction that was done in the 1970s by Wright or in the 1990s by Mosser (I think maybe Mosser?). Either way, when I saw this set I fell in love. It is one of the most remarkable colors I have ever seen in glassware. It is a heavy, hand made pressed milk glass in delphite (blue) with a carnival, iridescent finish that radiates a rainbow of colors. Obsessed.
